This week's Hook of the Week from Teach Like a PIRATE by Dave Burgess is The Costume Hook.
The Costume Hook
Dave mentions that he often calls himself a "guest speaker" in his class when he's dressed up in a costume. And the students LOVE it!
The best advice Dave gives with this hook is, "If you're concerned about looking foolish in front of your students--get over it."
So, there you have it. It's for the kids. Just do it!
What guest speaker might join your class this week?
Consider these questions when planning for this hook...
- What can I wear as an outfit or costume for this lesson?
- Is there an existing character that I can impersonate?
- Can I create a character that is relevant to this lesson?
- What accessory (something as small as a hat or glasses) can I wear to enhance my presentation?
In what ways might you use The Costume Hook to engage your students or adult learners?
